I wouldn't know as I only recently completed it a few months ago and I hated the classic RE games (except for RE2).

Gonna get Revelations 1 and 2 as well once im done with 4, 5 & 6. Just remembered ive got RE0 to play as well but ill save that for another time. Ive had my fill of the "classic" gameplay for now thanks to CVX dragging on and on haha.

By the way back when this was released was it known that you play as Chris so late in the game? I get the feeling if it wasnt it would have had the opposite effect when we switched from Snake to Raiden in MGS2 and everyone was gutted.
The difference is that Chris is sort of a badass, and Raiden at the time was...not, really.

predxeno

I never liked the Chris and Jill combo; their relationship and personalities always felt superficial, like they were more centered on action than character.  Claire and Leon both had more emotional depth in their stories, like the relationships they form with other people such as Ada Wong, Sherry Birkin, Rani Chawla, and Moira Burton.  Code Veronica is actually the only game where Claire's character feels flat but I imagine that's because Chris was in the game also. ;)

KiramidHead

No, it's because her character arc is almost all built around f**king Steve.

predxeno

Yeah, Steve wasn't a particularly great character, they didn't even bring him back for a sequel despite how they left his plotline open for one, but what I said earlier about Chris was more my idea of trying to tell a joke, not very well it seems.

Seriously though, there are no Revelations 2 PS3 players here? :(

Steve is one of the most irritating characters ive ever came across in a game. That f**king voice. Jesus. And he's a complete weirdo. Creeping up for an unsuspecting bit neck on with Claire while she's sleeping. Yeah mate thats a bit rapey. The whole game is utterly batshit. Weskers powers and that f**king cross dresser squealing like a girl.

In hindsight now that ive nearly finished all the classic games I cant believe all the shit RE5 got for being stupid and over the top. People must have had their rose tinted glasses on because theres nothing in RE5 that isnt equally as stupid as something thats come before it in an earlier game (especially CVX).

KiramidHead

And then there's thatpPart where Steve ducks up the drill because he was checking out Claire's ass.

Well im sorry to say I didnt finish CVX. It outstayed its welcome way way too long and I was getting bored shitless and just wanted to get cracking with RE4. I just went on Youtube and watched one of those condensed edits with all the cutscenes gameplay snippets tying it together. Still dont really have a f**king clue what the story was about, it was mental. Actually felt really sorry for Steve though. Started off as the most irritating character ever but his intentions were always good.

Well onto RE4 and wow this game is superb. Just got to the church and rescued Ashley and so far its incredible. This would have blown my mind 10 years ago. Bit worried its going to turn a bit irritating having to worry about Ashley but seems ok so far. Dont know why i noticed it because its probably standard fare now but for a game thats 10 years the reload animations are bloody brilliant.

No worries, CVX was just one long grind for me as well. :(  And my tolerance for crappy stuff is much longer than most people's.  When you start RE 5, RE 6, or RE Revelations 2, and if you have a PS3 be sure to friend me and I'll be you coop partner. ;)  I've done them on single-player and trust me it's better (and easier) when your partner isn't a bad AI.  Operation Raccoon City might be the only exception to this rule, but that was a damn fine game.

Ashley comes and goes throughout the game and really so long as you're clever with where you place her, she's no trouble.  Easily still the best escort mission in a game ever.

Good to know. Nothing worse than an irritating escort section that ruins an otherwise good game. Best example ive seen of an escort mission done right was Enslaved. It was the whole damn game but it was brilliant.

Any news on Resident Evil 7?

predxeno

No, I think we'll sooner hear from Revelations 3 than RE 7.

TheBATMAN

My only complaint with RE4 is that the castle far outstays it's welcome.

predxeno

I didn't find RE 4 to be scary at all so I fail to see why people call it a survival horror classic. ???
