QuoteA veiled Muslim woman was kicked out of a famed Paris opera house after cast members refused to perform in her covered presence.

Cast members performing the opera La Traviata "objected strongly" to the presence of a woman in the audience wearing a niqab-type veil, who was seated in the front row. A singer didn't spot the woman until the second act of the show, which was when several performers said they didn't want to sing until she was removed from the Bastille Opera house, according to the Daily Mail.

I agree and well done France for having the balls to push that law. Are you taking any notes here United Kingdom? (what a stupid question).

Didn't know Belgium has the ban too.

How many jobs would it cost the UK to leave the EU? 2 million? 3 million? I'm sure Cameron and the UKIP nutters have a plan how to create new jobs for these people and fill the massive hole in the nations GDP that an exit from the EU will leave behind. Right? :)

If they just throw out all those pesky immigrants, I'm sure a couple of million jobs will open up. :)

The really frightening thing is how the current economic crisis is making nationalist parties across Europe stronger, parties with nothing to offer but populist, hateful propaganda and absolutely no realistic solutions to solve anything. Then again, the ruling social democratic and conservative parties have no one else to thank (and blame) for this development than themselves. :-\

The Sweden Democrats became the third largest party over here after the September election, so yeah.

Although the Sweden Democrats have a somewhat different (and much nastier, with direct roots to Nazism) ideology than The Danish Peoples Party, it's not difficult to see what's going on in Sweden right now, as a mirror image of what we went through here in the late 90s/early 00s. Meaning, the voters moving from the left side of the political spectrum to the right, generally speaking. Sad. :-\

While I on one hand regret that they have gained so much in popularity, I do think the more established parties need a kick in the butt over here, because there's a lot of crap going on with those as well that usually get sidelined in media for the more popular SD trashing. :-\

What was lurking in Sweden's waters?
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-29722500

QuoteSweden's armed forces say they have abandoned their search for what they believed was a submarine, spotted not far from Stockholm more than a week ago.

The hunt was described as Sweden's biggest mobilisation since the Cold War. Speculation had centred on Russia, but the Russians scoffed at the claims.

Was there a sub after all?

The military here are convinced it was a smaller sub-marine. Speculation is that it was towed back to Russia earlier this week.
