QuoteWe plead for solidarity and sensitivity from President, Mrs. Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, as well as that from Diplomats.

We ask that you exercise your authority so the polar bear Arturo, who lives in deplorable conditions in the Mendoza Zoo, is moved to Assiniboine Park Zoo in Canada, where a natural habitat and a better life are awaiting him.

We plead that you intervene on this issue and ask the officials in Mendoza who have the polar bear Arturo prisoner to accept Arturo's transfer to the reserve so he can live in suitable conditions. In December 2012, a polar bear died in Buenos Aires due to heat, causing unease in Argentina and in the international community.

After this death, refusal to transfer Arturo causes scandal in the world and Mendoza is becoming sadly famous for this, exporting an image of a retrograde province.

Say No to death and suffering! Help Mendoza be part of change, be part of the future. Help Mendoza go back to being good news to the world!

QuoteDon't let them put Raju back into a life of misery and spiked chains!

We rescued Raju after he spent approximately 50 years chained up, beaten, and help captive by beggars in India. His rescue story went viral online because this abused elephant was crying tears of joy when he was finally set free in a loving environment at our elephant sanctuary.

At the time of his rescue he was near death. He was emaciated, dehydrated and exhausted. Despite his frailness, he was forced to beg on the streets and was being kept in spiked chains.

Now the cruel person who had illegal custody of him is trying to get him back through the Allahabad court. You helped free him once by supporting Wildlife SOS campaigns and our sanctuaries.

We need your voice once again to keep his freedom.

There have been delays in the court system, and although Raju is currently safe with our staff at the Elephant Conservation and Care Center in Mathura, a decision may come down from the court as early as October 13 (this is the rescheduled date following court delays again on September 22).

Please sign to tell the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department and State governments to keep Raju free!

Earth has lost half of its wildlife in the past 40 years
http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2014/sep/29/earth-lost-50-wildlife-in-40-years-wwf

QuoteThe number of wild animals on Earth has halved in the past 40 years, according to a new analysis. Creatures across land, rivers and the seas are being decimated as humans kill them for food in unsustainable numbers, while polluting or destroying their habitats, the research by scientists at WWF and the Zoological Society of London found.

The report concludes that today's average global rate of consumption would need 1.5 planet Earths to sustain it. But four planets would be required to sustain US levels of consumption, or 2.5 Earths to match UK consumption levels.

The number of animals living on the land has fallen by 40% since 1970. From forest elephants in central Africa, where poaching rates now exceed birth rates, to the Hoolock gibbon in Bangladesh and European snakes like the meadow and asp vipers, destruction of habitat has seen populations tumble. But again intensive conservation effort can turn declines around, as has happened with tigers in Nepal.

Marine animal populations have also fallen by 40% overall, with turtles suffering in particular. Hunting, the destruction of nesting grounds and getting drowned in fishing nets have seen turtle numbers fall by 80%. Some birds have been heavily affected too.

Future's looking brighter every day! :)

Americans are wasteful as hell.

I don't want to think how many hunrdreds of thousands of baby chickens were killed while we were on deployment just to provide a battalions worth a soldiers chicken wings.....................which we never ate because we were tired of them.

But if you don't clean your plate every meal, you are just like the rest of us other first world countries.

The species as a whole is wasteful as hell, especially when the standard of living we enjoy in developed nations is now starting to be demanded by emerging, exploding populations in places like India and China. There's absolutely no way we can sustain all this.

But people are gonna recklessly breed no matter what, because the diffusion of responsibility is so great that there will never be any concentrated effort to fix things. Our generation is gonna reap all the benefits of this shit, too. Yay :)

We are overdue for a new population controlling pandemic.   ;)

QuoteThe United States has diagnosed its first case of the deadly Ebola virus, a man who became infected in Liberia and travelled to Texas, US health officials say.

Well, at least it's in Texas and not one of the states that actually matters...

I kid, I kid.

Let's airlift Aspie out, though.

Haven't I been saying on this site for years that we need to cut the human population?

I remember an argument with SM where he (with all sincerity) told me everything was fine because we as a species were building...

...up.
