Big bald engineer looks awesome sexy mofo.
Yup, the Shaw/engineer/thingy frames look excellent, to me. It's not even a spoiler, it asks more questions than it answers.
Very curious how that squid thing looks like,
Lindelof,Ridley and Spaihts really let loose an squid/arachnid? lol but on the other hand messed up creations with that goo can look like anything.

Here it is, folks--a thread of your own to vent your dislikes, reservations and apprehensions about Prometheus: its story, the trailers, everything.

I'll start:
--Logan Marshall-Green in the trailers, and I don't like how silly some of the costumes for the crew are (Rafe Spall, wtf).
--The massive doses of glaringly obvious CGI.
--The magical hologram vidscreen technology. Ugh. Not present in ANY of the original installments in the series.
--The overall shiny clean-ness of everything. Once again, CGI. >:(
--The 3D. Having witnessed it myself, it is very distracting and takes away from the otherwise excellent visuals.
--Marc Streitenfeld. Why Ridley, why? I know scores aren't your strong point, but Elliot Goldenthal ain't dead yet.
--The TRON-ish yellow/blue color scheme.
--Dodgy accents from Guy Pearce in the TED Talk and Idris Elba in the trailers.
--The von Daniken "We found these star maps in a cave, tee hee" stuff. I'm fine with the Jockeys creating mankind, but couldn't it have been discovered in a way that wasn't so...tired?

Everything else gets a hesitant thumbs up from me ;)

Now it's your turn!

I can understand why these are all valid things to not like, but I personally cannot find a reason to agree with any of this. There were times where some of the stuff in that post; that I myself was feeling off about, but I've to accept it. Luckily I like what I'm seeing, and that's only going to add to my experience when watching it...or is it possibly bias? Hmm.

I've never understood the outrage over using Von Daniken's crazy old tosh in a science-fiction movie, just because he was a hack.  It pre-dates him.  It's an old concept, basically Lovecraft - a big influence on Dan O'Bannon - and very worth exploring.  It's a movie.  It's fiction and horror.

This is also a series that has had ships with sound effects in outer space before, so let's not pretend it's been wholly scientifically accurate.

I love everyone losing faith in something they haven't even seen yet.

And to anyone expecting the science in this movie to be sound....Really?  You really go into a movie about giant aliens expecting that?  Wow.

Yes, I expect a science-fiction movie to be, in general, scientifically sound...especially when the Director makes proud assertions of having consulted "extensively" with Nasa, as well as other scientific specialists.

As to your 2nd remark, I never expected this film to involve large blue men...until that was revealed in the trailers.  Nor, did I expect the original Space Jockey concept to devolve into some "humanoid" in a suit.  Despite that, I was hoping there might still be some unique, imaginative alien biology explored in this film.  That is, until I just saw the giant tentacle beast...which quite possibly could be the most groan-worthy cliche (trope) in B-science fiction cinema.

Deuterium...

THIS means SOMETHING...This is IMPORTANT!!!

...unless you're secretly Harlan Ellison ( in which case Ridley can expect a C&D order ANY MINUTE as he wrote EVERYTHING)...Science Fiction still involves the word 'FICTION'...and the trailers have shown AT MOST less than 10 minutes...

Let's ALL take a deep breath and wait for a real review (or failing THAT, see it with our own occular organs...)

...not that eyes are organs, but I digress.

I'll never understand the apparent urge that people have to bitch and whine about everything, like if they can do it any better than Ridley himself.

My question exactly....

Just what have we seen? Hints, glimpses, but NOTHING that reveals in full the creatures with the exception of the Engineers, and still, they're blurry at best.

I want to be careful so as to let everyone air their opinions without inadvertently invalidating them...but I struggle with the logic of some of the comments I read as opposed to the actual comments themselves.

It's not that I want people to smile and drink the "it's awesome" kool aid with everything they see, but I suppose I see a general lack of faith but not based in anything substantial. The creatures may look terrible in their final stage, who knows...I'm ready to admit that.....AFTER I have every single in image in absolute context.

I tend to be a bit cynical about some of what I read because it comes off like seeing a certain color and proclaiming 'I don't like that color' and then condemning the rest of the canvass before I see how the color in question is used in context.

I also believe that Ridley Scott is no perfect director. He has just a chance of getting Prometheus right as he does getting it all terribly wrong...but that said, and in his favor...we have more reasons to think the best of him and his creative decisions then to think otherwise.

That's my .02

Have you people forgot that A L I E N was just inches away from being a B monster movie directed by Roger Corman!? It was only a chance reading of O'Bannon's and Schuset's script at 20th Century Fox that saved it. Ridley and Giger elevated it to the next level. But at it's core A L I E N is still a B monster movie in an old dark house. Ridley has earned the benefit of the doubt, and he will not disappoint. You need to keep your nerd rage at a minimum.

Oh, I think almost everything Ridley's made in the last decade or so is crap with the exception of Kingdom of Heaven, and I guess Black Hawk Down which I still found vastly overrated.  I also thought White Squall was hilarious, but beautiful for the homoerotic eye candy.  And I have never liked Black Rain or Someone to Watch Over Me, despite some gorgeous visuals.

That said, when he's on, he's on, and when he's good he's good, and this still looks very good to me.

I'm just gonna go with what I said in the interview Rick Grimes did with me. If you wanna give Prometheus a fair chance, you need to park some of those pre-determined mindsets outside when you enter the theater upon first viewing.

Otherwise, if you are expecting the film to follow the beats and storyline you've put together inside your own mind for it to be good or acceptable, you are setting yourself up for a disappointing experience, no matter what the film has to offer.
