Bought the hardcover edition of The Lost World at a goodwill store for a dollar. Never read it before, is it as good/better than Jurassic Park?

I liked it. Not as much as Jurassic Park, from what I remember, but it was good.

Both were good, but no, not as good as JP.

I understand that it does have continuity errors (such as Ian Malcolm being alive) and it is similar to the same formula as the first book; I also know that it necessarily isn't a "sequel" to his novel for Universal Studios wanted Crichton to pen a novel specifically for them to film a sequel to Jurassic Park.

It's not a continuity error. Retcon simply enough. From dead to thought to be dead. 'The doctors did miracles' and all that.

I've lately been in the mood for some Sword 'n' Sorcery.

Awesome.

Do you know if there are any replicas of Thorin's axe? That thing is a beast.

Have you ever seen The Beastmaster? I am curious to know how it is.

Not yet.

United Cutlery makes Gandalf Staff, Orcrist and Sting. Weta makes Radagast and Gandalf staff, Nori's knives, Balin's mace, Dwalin's axes and Fili's knife.

I've only seen bits and pieces, but that's enough to know it's an unquestionable masterpiece of bad filmmaking. I would check it out just for a possibly drunk Rip Torn on villain duty.

But I do seriously recommend The Sword and the Sorcerer (imaginative title). Plenty of gore, nudity, flowing man hair and Richard Lynch, plus it's arguably a more faithful Conan film than any of the actual adaptations.

First Blood

Thanks I'll look into both those, definitely The Sword and the Sorcerer. Reading Arnold's book at the moment, and he's talking about Conan – and its making me want to go back and watch it (this time with the glorious commentary) but the movie you just described sounds too delicious to pass up. So Conan will have to wait.
