Predator had the AVP movie curse.
Alien had one good sequel.
Expendables gets a pass.
Karate Kid sequels sucked.

Predator had an awesome sequel  :P
Alien 3 should get some credit.
You didn't like KK2?  I thought taking it overseas made it interesting.  The third one totally sucked @ss.

I enjoyed The Chronicles of Riddick, but at the same time certain elements annoyed me, particularly the design of the Necromongers, overall it was good though and Colm Feore as a bad guy is always a plus

Though he'll never top Andre Linoge

Jurassic Park was the furthest thing from promising there was. TLW is miles ahead of JP 3.
It's TJ you are talking to.

He must be shown the error of his ways.

Um, I don't get it. If we're talking about prequels, sure that's a great list you've all got going here. But this is the third movie, and almost that entire list is full of 3rd movies that suck, or are at least nowhere near as good as the first or second installments.

It's actually a very good example of horrifying third movies after two great or good ones.

The only ones I'd keep from Docs list for examples of good third films are Die Hard, Indiana Jones, and maybe Back to the Future (which I love but I think is considered kind of a flop after 2.)

To me it seems that third films have sucked almost universally. :P I can smell the suck coming... it smells like...

Um hm.

Also, I forgot Men in Black.

A few more:

Predator
Alien
Expendables
Karate Kid (Original)

Each had great sequels to give us hope for Riddick.

Diesel takes this character pretty serious and that's going to make a big difference also.

I believe this film will be good as well but for the record, Nicolas Cage claimed to take Ghost Rider seriously. Just saying.

Guys.

None of the sequels that you're mentioning feature Katee Sackhoff :-*

Naked Katee Sackhoff, from what I've heard.  8)

Goldfinger is a great third film in a series.

Ditto Star Trek III.

Great examples.

Oooh, ALSO A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. Always loved that one.

Return of the King
Toy Story 3

Just to name two right off the top of my head.

Don't you even get me started with the bastardized half-bake that was Return of the King.

But the rest are great examples. Maybe it's a trilogy curse? Even Jedi ruffled some serious jimmies  and I will always love that film.

Return of the King was magnificent, despite the fact that I think it could have been substantially better given what they left out from the source material. Although that also goes for the first two as well...

I saw the trailer for this yesterday when I saw Pacific Rim. Looks...well, action packed. And that's it. So I'll probably see it at some point, but won't be rushing out to view.

Understood, but Nichols Cage is not Vince Diesel.  Not even close  :P
