I know that I'm probably gonna be very unpopular for what I'm about to say here but I'm gonna do it anyway because for me it has to be said.
All you good people that participate in this site, (and I'd just like to say that it really is a f@ckin great site for the fans of both franchises), don't you think that a crossover was just a really bad idea in the first place? Not just because AVP sucked but because, basically, thats now it for both of them? We will never see another Alien or Predator stand alone movie.
Both franchises have had their storylines and timelines dumped on! (How could the real Bishop appear in Avp AND Alien3 for instance!) I'm a fan of the comics of both, and the expanded universe of books and comics gripped me growing up and still does today.
But come on, the idea of the two squaring of against each other on film was awesome, but at the same time, it was an interesting idea, though you didn't deep down actually want to see it. And that's just what it was, an idea. But now it's happened, it's a real life case of "Be careful what you wish for!"
Am I the only one that doesn't wanna see an Alien or a Predator movie next to "Frankenstien vs Godzilla" when I go to rent or buy a movie in 5 or 10 years? It's not that often that a film or a film series grabs you and influences you that much that you would be compelled to seek out a community of like minded people just to be able to talk with someone that feels the same kind of passion for it as you.
I for one will watch AVP:R, and I probably will enjoy it for what it is. But it will be bittersweet because it just can't do justice to the people that really have made the franchises a part of their lives. Because, deep down, none of us wanted this to happen.
As I said at the start, you can rip me as much as you want, because a lot of you guys maybe really wanted to see this. But no-one can deny that it's the end of BOTH era's, and that's a shame.
Cheers,
Andy
