Was just reading about this a few minutes ago.
This feels irresponsible to have headlines like "a cure for cancer?". And all of that business about it coming soon.
For goodness sake, I have friends that lost loved ones to cancer last year, and another with a spouse that's dying of terminal cancer as we speak. To send these people into the void with ideas of an imminent cure being just out of their reach is cruel. Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but I think they should keep their mouths shut about this sort of thing until they can honestly say that have something that's succeeded, and on actual human test subjects.
Hell, like it wouldn't cost 5 million bucks a dose anyway.
Well... though there still isn't a singular cure for cancer, we do continue to make unprecedented advances in treatments that greater your chances of survival. Part of the issue is the individual's strength (is their body strong enough to withstand the treatment, i.e. high enough blood counts, liver and kidney function stable), while the other is the specific pharmacological approaches and treatments that target the cancer cells synthesis, etc etc. A "cure for cancer" may cure
your cancer, but another person may not be responsive to the same treatment because of where they started from.
I agree though. Labelling something prematurely as a "cure for cancer" is irresponsible and dishonest. Especially when it comes from outside the medical community, who probably have no idea what they're talking about. And don't even get me started on drug costs.....
