So, I am trying to test the Alien skin in game. and I have been looking at tutorials for the rez process. And I am just very confused on what the hell I am supposed to do. I completely forgot on how to do this thing because it's been awhile since I modded.

User Winrez or Dragon Unpacker

lithrez can be used very simple.

I have Winrez. The issue is I have completely forgotten how this whole thing works.

JP

just create a directory in your game "custom/skins/characters/alien" and put your alien skins there, then in the game command line just put "-rez custom"

The predalien model is still twisting the textures but im pretty happy with the result

All 1080x1080 textures. The original flat DTX files actually look prettyer than the ingame model

I tried opening the Lithrez.exe thing and it just instantly closes. So Apparently until I fix this. I won't be able to use lithrez. And when i use WinRez, the GRM.rez doesn't even show up at all. But Avp2 mod manager can find it. And when I did that. Nothing showed.

This is what I get when I view the skins or any of the folder sin the Avp2 files.

And this is what I get when I do the lithrez.exe.(I had to snap it real quick, and this is the best I got. But it is still see able)

you dont need to create a .rez file to use custom stuff ingame but if you want you need winrezLT

http://www.blackangel-software.com/?q=lithtech

It basically works like winrar but it creates .rez files. You can also use it to extract the game files you want manually

I also have that. The issue is that if I cant see the .dtx image the skin is not applied. I found the drone_head.dtx file but I can't tell if it either working o not.

JP

You also have to use Dedit to import the textures and set the compression and flags

Deathly_rYaN

What are the recommended compression and flags?

JP

on dedit:

0
blank
4
4
1
blank
1
1.0000
0

DTX1 (8x compression)

I did what  you said and still nothing. I imported the .pcx file of the skin onto DeEdit. Modified it's properties. The  i loaded all the textures in the Alien file from DeEdit into Winrez. Created a .rez and nothing. How do I open the .dtx to make sure it is the right file?

KingKenny

Lithrez needs to be opened via command prompt.

Another tutorial (I learned how to skin using this one): http://fusionclanforum.yuku.com/topic/498/FU-Skinning-Tutorial-the-longest-fu-forum-thread-ever#.Toh27bJllRo

JP

on WinrezLT directory there is a program called DTXviewer, you can use it to open DTX files, but the output texture is the one that appears on dedit's texture viewer/editor.

To avoid confusion i would ignore the .rez file for now. Just go to the directory of the project you are working on dedit amd go to "skins/characters/alien" and copy the dtx files from there (drone head legs and torso). Then on your main avp2 game directory create one called "custom/skins/characters/alien" and paste there the dtx files you just copied. On the game's  launcher command line just put "-rez custom".
Its a much simpler process and you dont have to modify a .rez file evertime you do something to the skins.

The way you said works. Finally saw it in game. With the Compression it does seem to take a little detail off though.

*With note, that this is up close, and it does look fine from a distance.

*UPDATE*

Started working on the Torso and Leg files for the Drone. Two things are changed.
