Remember that being quite enjoyable.

In fact I remember liking it far more than the opening trilogy that seems to get so much love.

I haven't read it since my high school days.  It's a lot of fun

To me the original trilogy is better in comic form than in novel form.

Genocide was alright in both versions.

Despite how phenomenal Beauvais' artwork is, I think Nightmare Asylum the novel is just much better. It puts more onto the success of the characters, rather than how incidental it felt in the comic. I think Spears is much more interesting fleshed out in there (I know you disagree HuDa).

And Female War is much more improved to, especially with the lack of Keith's artwork. Though I still f**king hate that little romance sub-plot between Wilks and Billie. I do think Outbreak/Book One/Earth Hive is about on par in both though.

Genocide I really enjoyed the novel, more so than the comic.

Yeah, well, you wrong, innit :P

I remember wondering whether I should bother continuing with the books after the first three (unless I'm forgetting something, they were the first EU novels I read). I just found them kinda lacklustre, uninspired and overly cliched. But then I got to Genocide and liked it a lot.

The Short-Timers by Gustav Hasford

Source material for Full Metal Jacket. I'm about halfway through and can say definitively that Full Metal Jacket is only scratching the surface in terms of the kind of raw, transgressive material that Hasford throws at the reader. This book feels super dangerous, which is probably why it's been out of print. It's also the most addictive book I've read since Nico Walker's Cherry.

EDIT:

Also, hard to find. I've never seen it in a used bookstore. You will pay between $55-$60 for a used mass-market on Amazon it looks like. The copy I'm reading is from the university library system, which I'm lucky enough to have access to. There's not a single copy of this anywhere in the local public library system.

Casino: Love and Honor in Las Vegas, by Nicholas Pileggi

Not as immediately attention grabbing as Wiseguy, but still good. I wish the movie had found a way to include the bit where Lefty takes the fifth thirty-seven times in a row.

I'm listening to the audiobook of Resurrection and I don't know why.

Hope's narration makes it tolerable, and even a little enjoyable.

But there are certain parts you should never listen to while eating.

You're talking about the novelization? I thought Resurrection was the best of the first four movies by a long shot.
