The last great Tim Burton film.

Avengers Endgame

It's grown on me since I first saw it in the cinema and was extremely disappointed.

Positives, Hemsworth, Downey Jr and Evans acting is stellar throughout.  Scarlett Johannson is also excellent.  The moments that spoke to me as a comic book fan really worked, the effects and the score are top notch. Captain Marvel is well used, and actually made me like her a little more.

Negatives

The way Thor is treated quite frankly, is f**king disgraceful.  Hemsworth has some of his best moments portraying a Thor who is struggling with guilt and suffering from serious PTSD but it is ruined by unneccessary fat jokes and Big Lebowski references.

Hulk is completely wasted for the second movie in a row.

Thanos isn't Thanos in this movie, generic bad guy with varying power levels depending on who he is fighting.  Takes on Iron Man, Cap and Thor together with ease, but struggles against solo Scarlett Witch (who is a badass, there is no denying that) and Captain Marvel, (her not reacting to his headbutt is taking it too far) That being said, it was nice to see Wanda get a little payback for Vision.

The final battle is a mess.  A few great moments aside, it is cut together too quickly, and it struggles to keep up with individual characters who barely have enough screen time.

Overall.  Endgame is okay.  It was such a shame that an excellent movie like Infinity War was followed up with something that just didn't hit the mark for me.

7/10

Withnall & I (1986)
Turns out this was an Arrow 2K restoration re-release. It looked amazing on screen. Sure its a film where not much happens, but its still a classic quotable cult hit. Grant and McGann are a storm, Griffith is brilliant and its amazing that Brown's character from Wayne's World 2 was inspired by a character who only has a couple of scenes here. All in all, I just loved it.

Now I want a drink.

Second time I've watched it.  Easily one of the greatest Australian films ever made.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
Dunno why everyone's so negative about this. Although it again(!) screws with the timeline, it's on par with First Class, X-Men and The Wolverine. 7/10

Return to Oz (1985) -- what can I say? despite being a kid friendly fantasy movie, it's a bit creepy  seriously...Dorothy at the mentally ill asylum, the shapeshifting rocks, the headless princess (able to change her head according to the occasion), the "half human-half bike" guys, and the final moments of the villain giving me a vibe of  'Saturn Devouring His Son' by Francisco Goya. I liked the robot. It was an in between of C-3PO from 'Star Wars' and Jake the dog from 'Adventure Time' (I know is a modern TV show, but I am a big fan so I can't help falling in pareidolia :-X). The designs and special effects were similar to those in the movie 'The Neverending Story'. That being said, I dig Emerald city (ruins) and citizens turned into stone. It reminds me of a sci fantasy story in the  'One Thousand and One Nights' anthology about a lost civilization whose inhabitants are petrified (although more similar to taxidermy) and the characters are escorted through the city by a robot. The chicken character was a bit annoying though. But overall I enjoyed this "strange in a strange land" tale :) as I'm feeling like hungry for some retro fantasy (I prefer science fiction and horror, but sometimes one need a break. 'The Dark Crystal' is guilty too though ;D).

Godzilla 98 (4/5)

The little ones still scare the shite out of me. It's like Aliens, but with Godzilla's.

They Crawl (2001)
Cheesy Cockroach creature feature. Back when Syfy were still Sci-Fi lol

Deadline (1984)
Random Horror made in the 70s but not released until 5 years later. Its all over the place, especially the ending

Doomsday (2007)
Not as good as I thought it would be, especially coming from Neil Marshall. Its trying to be too many films at once

The Lion King (2019)

I guess I'm one of the handful of people who welcomed the remake with open arms. I hated watching Mufasa die again, but Hans somehow made the stampede music sound even more intense and horrifying.

I love Beyonce's "SPIRIT", but it should have been an updated version of "Busa" when Simba runs back to Pride Rock.

I've always really enjoyed that film, and never understood why it gets quite so much hate. Yeah it's silly, but so are loads of the Japanese films. Jean Reno is great in it

Because they screwed up Godzilla?

This is what the Japanese think of Zilla '98:

In what way did they "screw it up"? It's just a different take on it.

I don't really care what toho thought of it. At the end of the day, they still took Hollywood's money and gave them their blessing to do the film.

And when they saw the end result they were none too pleased with it, so I am sure they regret that dumb decision.

Anyway, in my opinion the '98 Godzilla design sucks and deviates too far from the original.
