7/10. Wasn't higher due to weak Aliens campaign, lack of maps in standard retail edition and multiplayer system that could do with a bit of patching. I raved about everything else. In particular I loved the atmosphere of the marine campaign, I loved the backstory in the Predator campaign and I love how well it works on the controllers.

QFT.  I rate him pretty highly as a critic as well.  I find myself agreeing with him much more often than not.

Not sure if this was posted on here yet or not, I couldn't find it, but Game informers podcast is up and they talk in depth about AVP and why they reviewed it the way they did. One of the other reviewers said he didn't agree with the low score that was given in the magazine etc etc. It's a good listen, and I agree with a lot of the points they make.

Depends, some consider a 5 average, some consider a 7 average.  I personally expected to see at least an 8 considering how positive the review seemed.

And that is something that has always bugged me. In fact I'm honestly beginning to wish that concluding number scores are abolished from future reviews. The real score lies within the reviewer's writing... but so many people seem to disregard the thousand words they've just read through in favor of a digit!

The overall score isn't really an indication of where the quality lies. An actual review will help you see what aspects of the game are powerful and which ones are weak. Even a 6/10 game can be golden to you depending on what you value in a game.

Gamespot gave Twilight Princess a score of less than 6. Either they're mad or I am, because that game was pretty consistently brilliant.
