My major's astronomy, yeah. More interested in cosmology and black holes, but planets are cool.

Very nice!! What do you intend to do when you finish?

Uh... space stuff, I guess? Don't really know too well at this point. Gonna try getting research jobs over the summer, see if I like that. If yes, move on to graduate studies. If no, probably get an engineering degree or something similar which is immediately employable.

Fair enough. Was just wondering if you had a specific field you wanted to get into after you'd done, but fair enough!

Here's an interesting fact considering it's Remembrance Day.

Actor James Doohan, known in the Star Trek franchise as Scotty, was a war veteran who served in WW2 with the Canadian army and his first mission was D-Day.

QuoteAt the beginning of the Second World War, Doohan joined the Royal Canadian Artillery. He was commissioned a lieutenant in the 13th Field Artillery Regiment of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division. He was sent to England in 1940 for training. His first combat was the invasion of Normandy at Juno Beach on D-Day. Shooting two snipers, Doohan led his men to higher ground through a field of anti-tank mines, where they took defensive positions for the night. Crossing between command posts at 11:30 that night, Doohan was hit by six rounds fired from a Bren gun by a nervous Canadian sentry: four in his leg, one in the chest, and one through his right middle finger. His right middle finger had to be amputated, something he would conceal during his career as an actor.

Doohan graduated from Air Observation Pilot Course 40 with 11 other Canadian artillery officers and flew Taylorcraft Auster Mark V aircraft for 666 (AOP) Squadron, RCAF as a Royal Canadian Artillery officer in support of 1st Army Group Royal Canadian Artillery. All three Canadian (AOP) RCAF Squadrons were manned by Artillery Officer-pilots and accompanied by non-commissioned RCA and RCAF personnel serving as observers.

Although he was never actually a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force, Doohan was once labelled the "craziest pilot in the Canadian Air Force". In the late spring of 1945, on Salisbury Plain north of RAF Andover, he slalomed a plane between mountainside telegraph poles "to prove it could be done"—earning himself a serious reprimand.

Half tempted to get Batman 66 on Bluray.

I saw that for sale the other day at Costco. Eh, fancy packaging, a Hot Wheel Batmobile replica, and a little bit of nostalgia can't convince me.

Goddamn, I picked it up today and looked at it, and carried it around the store. Then the little self-control fairy appeared on my shoulder and told to me wait until it was cheaper. It...was a tough day. I need a drink. :(

AvPGalaxy Award 2014 Awards Open Discussion

So it's that time of year again when we begin thinking about the AvPGalaxy Awards, and after talking a bit about it I decided it'd be best to ask you fellow members some questions and have a small open discussion about it before going further and you can also bring up anything you feel hasn't been addressed.

Firstly, who will be the host? I approached Shasvre about it as he was host last year but this year he doesn't have the time.

I myself have the free time to do it, but I don't know how others would feel about it. I'll be the host if members are okay with that, but if someone else is more eager than me to be host than I encourage them to step on up.

Also, who would be up for making the awards? Do you have any ideas or suggestions?

Talk away, share your thoughts.

Note: I didn't go and make a starter thread for it because a host hasn't been established yet.
