To merely explain the reason that nothing happens when you shoot them in-game, but yet everything else is a threat to them. Narrative STEEEERETCH.

Well, anyone could "Harvest" them, and the process is one of the only things that kills them, so that's a threat. So I'm gonna go ahead and stick with what was established in the game.
