What films, books, comics, myths, etc. that aren't explicitly related to the Alien franchise do you view as essential and/or supplemental to the understanding of Alien and its expanded universe, its themes, imagery, characters, plot points, and what it borrows or repurposes from other media?

We'll get the obvious out of the way:

• 2001: A Space Odyssey
• Blade Runner
• The Greek myth Prometheus
• The Roman myth of Romulus
• Frankenstein
• The Island of Doctor Moreau

You can absolutely include media that has released after the films, like Dead Space or Raised by Wolves!

Please, feel free to add to the list and comment below! :D

Local Trouble

Heart of Darkness isn't obvious?

SM

Not really.

Outland, 1981, Sean Connery. The film is great and can easily be seen as taking place in the Alien universe.
