The Crow (1994)
The movie that set Alex Proyas on the map and that literally killed action star Brandon Lee. That's probably where it got its cult status from, because the movie itself is nothing special. It's an adequate revenge flick about a rock star who rises from the ashes to take revenge on the scumbags who brutally murdered him and gang raped his girlfriend. Brandon Lee looks the part but is not much of an actor. Michael Wincott gets to play the main bad guy (again) and it looks like he had fun doing so. It's always nice to see Tony 'Candyman' Todd, but he doesn't get much to do. The revenge kills could be more imaginative. Only the one with the exploding car stood out. It's a good 90 minutes spent but don't expect a masterpiece. The Crow is all style, but very little substance. 6.5/10
