The French Connection

A bit like Bullitt, I feel as though this is mostly known for its car chase, and that's really unfair because it's a cracking movie all-round. Mind you, it is a great chase. Car vs. elevated train was such a genius idea.

Also like Bullitt, I get the impression this was way ahead of its time stylistically. It's got a very modern, almost documentary-like feel to it. Hackman and Schieder are excellent together. Love the ambiguous ending too.

Nosferatu

A silent classic that definitely holds up, with a fantastic main monster. The older Image DVD I have also comes with a brilliant score by The Silent Orchestra, which sadly hasn't been reused on any blu-ray editions.

House (1977)

One of the craziest, most entertainingly insane films you will ever see. Seriously, I can't even begin to describe it. It's easily the weirdest movie Toho ever released, and they made f**king Godzilla vs Hedorah.

Nosferatu: The Vampyre

While I may give the original a slight edge over this remake, Herzog really did a stunning job here. I'm not entirely sold on the ending, but the rest is great. Bring on the Robert Eggers version.
