How so? Seems the same just with the gameplay being more free and less restricted on how the player can interact with the world and monsters.

Well you're right about world interaction, but the game looks kinda' like a terrible anime now.

The original up to MHF2 were about primarily highly-creative saurian creatures, with a few giant athropods and apes in a lush, medieval world where it seemed everything was vaguely possible in real life.

Now you have roving cat-assistants, rabid carebears, those weird airship things, the shark with the inflatable stomach, etc.
Really seems they've run out of good, creative ideas and are just coming up with random crap. MH5 will probably feature a hentai for some unknown reason.

I honestly have preferred most of the crazier OTT designs of the newer games. I feel it gives the monsters (and the world) more personality as opposed to the generic "this is just a Yian Kut Ku only stronger and more capable of flight/other attacks." I will agree with you on the whale shark (hehe), that thing looks f**king ridiculously stupid, looks like a Dragon Ball enemy.
