Some suspect it was the Pro Russians, and the only way I think they could have the capacity to shoot down an airliner with a rocket is if they are being supplied by Russia. Either that or it came from Russia directly. The tragedy is still unfolding.

Not very long ago some Ukrainian Air Force aircraft have been shot down as well, a fighter jet and a transport aircraft from what I recall.

If that aircraft was flying at cruising altitude then there's no way a MANPAD could have shot it down. They would have needed access to something like SAM 2's or better. Not something some ragtag militia could easily get hold of.
