Many politicians believe there are enough problems on earth; then you have others that believe in a magical gravy train that will save them. However corporations aren't any better than government enterprises. In many ways they are far worse.

The problem is that corporations are, rather ironically, inherently selfish and it's the government that essentially steals their stuff and tosses it onto the street for everyone to plunder. Which is where the real progress happens.

The governments role should be to ensure knowledge spreads whether or not the greedy ones disagree.

the government has been responsible for so many modern inventions making their way to the local population its pretty unbelievable.  If major headways were made by the government in space its likely that they'd eventually make their way to civilians.

Yeah, that was back when there as an actual interest in space travel and getting to the moon, but that was only because of the race to beat Russia. That interest has died down significantly in the public so the government no longer sees it as major priority at the moment. Unless something changes, soon, private corporations are going to be the only ones doing anything in this department.

actually, if you want to beat the commies, this would be the best way to do- by definition.  It would prove that private corporations are better at getting things done than the government.

I still don't get why people believe there is any real difference between a government and a private corporation. It's the same damn thing. One taxes, the other gets you to hand over your money voluntarily. Of course one of them is supposed to protect us from the other... Simply put, we need both entities to get shit done.
