for the record, I hate the human skull cavities on the Giger design.  I'm grateful that Cameron/Winston ditched them when they ditched the canopy.

It's level-enhanced and over contrasted so the skull shows up. The actual print from the movie is not nearly so blatant. There are only three sections in the movie where you would have been able to see the skull (four if you count cut lambert scene) at all, and the longest of those is 5 frames out of 24x3.
