Well every shot is frame by frame analysed in the editing room.  Alien is very precise in that department.  If you frame by frame the facehugger attack, for example, you see some very interesting things going on.  Something that the naked eye cannot process fast enough.

When checking out the corridor scene earlier I was watching the original DVD release and happened to have the original production sound option on, I can assure you that the scene doesn't work better in silence. Ripley is breathing hard, the steam in blasting, the strobes are clicking and a basic siren is blaring, but without the music the shock appearance of the alien almost goes unnoticed.

I'm speaking strictly from the audiences ability to imagine things going on. The artist responsible for creating the visual novel based on a single screening of the movie could imagine all sorts of things happening with the creature.

I still remember in the late 90's there were some people who thought the queen had six arms.

Still intrigued at the missing footage which supposedly shows it transforming from a Giger-like box, as curiously shown in the original comic adaptation. The writer of it swore that he saw it in what he was screened.
IIRC SiL and SM deduced (or found out) that that scene was only blocked, not filmed. I haven't looked into it myself.

If so, it's even stranger that he claims he saw it! :)

What do you mean the scene was "blocked"?

People swear that they saw a version of Alien overladen with gore, or Blade Runner with alternate footage. These claims are usually bunked.

Blocked in film terminology: "The arrangements made for the composition of a scene, especially the placement and movements of actors."

Seems especially odd to me though... I mean, wouldn't there be some imagery or discussion somewhere about this variant of the alien for the film? Somewhere?

Wasn't the cut submitted to censors "pornographically bloodthirsty" and ended up being trimmed to make the certificate?

Here's another..

I always loved that shot. If it would be in the movie, it would be my single favorite image from it. Great filmmaking too - the strobe, the silhouette, the alarm lights. Brilliance

Was Ripley supposed to find the alien just standing there like that?  Seems a good opportunity to try out her flamethrower on it.

She had a chance to do it when he was peaking from around the corner. Fear does its thing
