Predator intelligence? (Read 1,140 times)

Hey everyone! So I was just thinking about Predator/Yaujta intelligence, how smart are they? Do you think they are smart enough to have made their own technology or that they are more primitive and have other beings smarter than them make their equipment and ships? I personally think they are extremely intelligent, that there is no way other lifeforms, enslaved or otherwise would be able to make equipment so closely tailored to them, nor do I think they would even be able to use any of it to such an expert degree if they didn't create it themselves. Predator Hunting grounds stated in a tape that they were not very smart and just abandoned vehicles because they could not fix anything they used, I think that's ridiculous, I also don't think it makes any sense, perhaps it was unrepairable and too damaged, or like on earth it was stolen and abandoned in favor of a better alternative. I just think they have been unfairly judged in recent media. Let me know your thoughts!

I think the whole "Predators are idiots who need smarter species to function" is the dumbest thing to come out of the EU and really does a disservice to the character.

I completely agree with you. All that does is just limit them as characters. Not that it's my favorite scene in "The Predator" but that scene where the mask shows the Predator scientists working on the Fugitive Predator, obviously they figured out how to genetically modify themselves which I know would make zero sense if they didn't understand it, nor would it be successful. Also of note I don't think they are naive or stupid during their hunts when they lose, it is merely that after winning all day long by killing every person in the movie, they get over confident and complacent. If they say started out the day fighting the main kill and took it seriously that enemy would be dead quite quickly.

I think a lot of it comes from their infrared vision ("How can they see the details???") and the fact they like hunting "(So primitive!!!)

But the films clearly show they operate their technology and modify it to their purpose. Wolf doesn't discard his damaged shoulder cannon, he converts it.

Yeah that seems to be alot of where the usual assumptions come up, I think that "Predators" did the Pred vision the best, it was infrared but it was very clear and detailed so I think they would have no trouble building complex things. I just think the technology of the first few films was dated and a little blurry so I can understand the assumption there. As for the hunting I think it's kind of silly of people to assume it as primitive when we as an intelligent species do it for sport all the time. Oh yes exactly right, they have shown time and time again that they very clearly understand their technology and can even modify it if necessary, not to mention their understanding of the prey they hunt, what we do, where we go, where we live and work and how to avoid detection. A complete caveman would have absolutely no chance at doing half of the things they do.

I usually take the EU with a grain of salt. I mostly stick with the movies. And from what they showed us, they are f**king smart. Even understanding humor and stuff. Yes, a terrible scene in The Predator, but still, quite impressive.

As the years go on that's why I tend to like AVP less and less as a concept outside of pure schlock, I love both characters, but one's best when it's sweet and the other's best when it's savoury if you get my meaning.

I think the only good AVP story's honestly the first.

What does AvP have to do with the Predators having a master race ... ?

I like it in the context of the Alien universe but I think it does a disservice to the Predator character itself.

When was it even mentioned in the Alien or AvP universe?

I thought this whole thing came out of AVP essentially?
