The Frighteners (3/5)

I love The Frighteners! One of my favorites growing up.

Good Boys 2/5 I guess. It had some funny moments but was generally stupid and cringey.

I never got what the big deal was with this movie. It's terribly overrated and pretty mediocre imo.

I might check out the original though.

I watched about 15 minutes of it on tv some years back, and it was like watching paint dry.

I intend to see it through someday, but my expectations are very low.

The Dead Don't Die (2019)
What a waste. Nice setting, solid cast, but slow, dumb and boring.
It's almost like the first half hour of a zombie movie, only it lasts for almost 2 hours.

For me it's Pacino's acting, the era and the setting.
For a lot it's the whole gangster thing.

That's some grade A Will Ferrell.
His scenes are the best thing of the movie.

As Baron says, it's Pacino's performance and the sheer 80s-ness of it that I love. Plus the pure, instinctual thrill of seeing a total c*nt fight his way to the top, killing anyone who gets in his way, only for it to all come crashing down in a blaze of primal glory. It's a plot that's been done countless times but I've never seen it done more satisfyingly than in Scarface.

Spoiler
And of course, the ultimate irony is that it all comes undone for him because he tries to do something good.

Although I will admit to not thinking much of it the first time I watched it. It was second time around that I realised how great it is.

When you watch it realising it was meant to have been a possible Tales from the Crypt movie, it takes it to a whole new level. Same with From Dusk Till Dawn

Which War of the Worlds?

Aquaman. I'm a massive DC fan (apologist in fact). But I thought this one was really just OK. Apart from Mera who's so beautiful she was hurting my eyes.

I dunno - not really my cup of tea... I loved Shazam, but this one not so much. I mean, it was fun and all that, but it it seemed (dare I say) too Marvelly.

Men In Black International (2019)
Meh, just meh. A very pedestrian Men In Black entry which, despite the chemistry between Thompson and Hemsworth, lacks tension, a decent villain and a good story. Smith and Jones are sorely missed. I partly blame director Gary F. Gray, who has never directed a sci-fi movie before. 5.5/10
