Yeah, as much as I'd love to recommend switching from Halo 2 to ODST and back to Halo 2 again between Metropolis and The Arbiter, the graphical and gameplay change may be a bit jarring for a first-time player.

Definitely. I also think that, even though it's a direct prequel to Combat Evolved, the pre-credits ending of Reach probably won't have the same impact without having first played the main trilogy.
