Fox must be running out of major comic book movie franchises now?

Hubbs

Oh finally, a movie that actually needs a reboot :)

QuoteFox also recently attempted to turn The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen into a TV series, but the pilot commissioned in 2013 was rejected.

Really? Meanwhile Penny Dreadful comes out and that's basically a LEG TV show. Weird.

Anyway, if it's not a straight remake from the comics, if they do that same BS of adding American characters..... dont care.

yeah, but that show is way more R-rated than fox would ever dare.

I'm surprise that Fox still has the rights to the series after all of these years. They got the rights to the movie sometime in 2001 after X-Men was a big hit. X-Men is the reason why Fox got the rights to LXG, Daredevil, Fantastic Four and Dragon Ball because they wanted as many movie franchises as possible.

a) rumour has it that Fox commissioned the comic, they started work on the movie in 1998, and the comic was published in 1999, if they did not commision the comic, they bought the movie rights before the comic was even published and therefore probably got a really good deal and probably got the film rights in perpetuity.
b) all the characters are public domain, no one owns them, they could make any movie with the characters that they wanted. even if they didn't own the rights, all they would have to do is change the plot a bit and the title and Moore and O'Neill wouldn't be able to do anything.

In response to a), that rumor came about because of a lawsuit. A screenwriter complained that he pitched an idea about a league of famous victorian characters fighting evil, and then they made the movie. His assertion was that the comic was just a smokescreen to cover the illegality. There's nothing to substantiate that, it's just the claim they made in the suit. Alan Moore took that to be the height of offensive. He HATES what they did with his comic, and the idea that he would then be accused of writing the comic just so they could make a movie is (allegedly) the thing that turned him off movie adaptations of his comics for good.
