7/10 Theatrical Cut
10/10 Assembly Cut

I really think that one of the best things that the movie do is killing Hicks and Newt. I love the atmosphere, most of the characters, the Alien design and the ending. And of course I fricking love the score. Dumbkamp and the AlienS fans can go and cry but Alien 3 it's a great movie, specially considering the hell development that it had

Despite some very deep flaws it has so much going for it. I've given it an attempted objective rating, because it's one of the only two films in the series I regularly rewatch at this point and it'd be easy for my bias to push it higher.

I am particularly transcended by the bit used when the dragon kills Boggs ans looks at Golic all bloody... I have shivers thinking about it.

The score is probably the best thing about it.

Quite the co-incidence; sounds like a 337 Model EEV may have crash landed today... 😅

Here's a video of the WW2 bomb being exploded along the blast beach yesterday... would have been cool to get this filmed from the cliff top, would have appeared very much like an EEV crash!

I fully intend to. When @RidgeTop comes back for another visit, I was planning on organizing some sort of wider AvPG get-together and hoping @Acid_Reign161 might be willing to play tour guide.

Will you shave your head and walk along the beach like Clemens?

I guess you'd better hope for dreary weather.  A sunny day might just ruin the experience.

it starts again ?
Yay!!! Count me in.

so:
Alien 3 has its problems, we know that.
(but even the best films from one brand have their problems)
But it's still a great film with very high standards in terms of camerawork, mood and acting.

I wrote this in another thread a few days ago but I'm happy to repeat it here:
I think the acting of the main characters in A3 is really great and I like it even better than in Aliens.

The parallel filming during the birth of the alien with Dillion's prayer is perfectly staged and one of the best of the whole saga.

The beginning and the end alone (sun disappearing behind the planet and reappearing after Ripley's death) have a beautiful religious allusion that runs through the entire film.

The score is fantastic and I wish Elliot Goldenthal had incorporated the choir into Adagio back then, as he had done in some live performances.

The alien design is great and I like the "facial expression" which is really nasty and mean. (unfortunately this design was continued as a basis and continued worse instead of returning to the biomechanical design in the other films)
With Doggy and the destroyed Bishop, which receive far too little praise, ADI have delivered their best work.

I definitely prefer the assembly cut, although I would definitely have kept the dog scene.
The ox scene doesn't have nearly that impact.

and I personally would have left the queenburster in there too.

8/10
