There's no motive to attack a marathon if it was a religious group. There's nothing about this attack for any serious terrorist to go after.
By that logic, none of the bombings in Iraq/Afghanistan, where dozens, if not hundreds of people got blown up at a time in markets, were carried out by Al Qaeda-linked people, either.
They'd target it because they consider them 'infidels'. They'd target it because it's an easy way to get both mass casualties
and lots of publicity. This isn't rocket science. It's typical of their MO.
Most likely reason nobody's claimed responsibility is because they were either caught in the explosion or are keeping a low profile, either because they're on the run or due to this just being the first phase of a campaign.
If anything, we should be asking who
else has a reason for striking a target like that. Sure, there are other terrorist groups out there, but Occupy Wall Street-aligned anarchists have nothing to gain from this and organisations like the 'Shining Path' aren't at all competent.

but if you're into the whole Muslims! thing these blurry pictures might pass for some kind of westernized non-Israeli Middle-Easterners.
You realise that Muslims aren't a race, right?
You can have white Muslims, Chinese Muslims - any kind of ethnicity you want. It means nothing. The 'shoe bomber' was white. Al Qaeda has been known for many years to be actively seeking out white recruits, specifically to get around ethnic profiling strategies.
Islamic extremism isn't an ethnicity. It's an ideology. An ideology which just so happens to be the one most entangled in wanting to strike US targets and lots of experience in building these types of devices. If you
don't consider Islamic radicals to be one of the more obvious potential suspects, then you're ignoring reality.
Doesn't mean to say they
are responsible. Just that it's a likelihood which needs to be considered.
