Have they been expensive to pick up?

They definitely can be if you don't find good deals. But, I always went through eBay, and over a long period of time I had got the Narcissus (~$60), Alien Transforming Playset (~$60), APC (~$80), Drop Ship (~$130), Predator Transforming Playset (~$50) & Predator Action Fleet Ship (+$200).

I really debated about the Predator Ship, but I always sell other merchandise for extra spending $ before new purchases. The Ship is pretty sweet IMO and I own good condition boxes for everything when I choose to sell in the future.

i was able to get a damaged and repaired one (cannot tell) for $100 shipped after negotiations off ebay
i feel very fortunate to have had that experience

Finally grabbed on the used market a 2004 SEGA Big Chap in excellent condition, really hard to come by in France.
A nice addition to my collection, that is !
