In terms of gameplay, it stomps all over 2016 and encounter design is leagues better as well.

I did play the 2016 one and enjoyed it.
Eternal did get a bit better but there are just too many jump puzzles.
I guess I'm more into Serious Sam.

I'm pretty sure there are no randomly respawning enemies in Doom Eternal. I think the only time enemies respawn is either if there's a gore nest spawning them, or an Archvile.

Also Doom Eternal has a story, moreso than Doom 2016 did. In fact one of my biggest criticisms of Doom Eternal is that it leans into the (nonsensical, overly-serious) story too heavily IMO.

2016 was basically the perfect update of classic Doom. Eternal overcomplicated the f**k out of everything. Instead of letting me play the game my way (like classic Doom and 2016 do), it forces me to play in specific ways and that annoys the hell out of me.

Since I just got Portal 2, I think I'll play it again.  I may have questions...

I need to replay Portal 2.
I loved it when it first came out, and still regard it as one of the best games I've ever played.
The original Portal is still top notch too.
