I know of the comic, but I own Gardners version.  I like it.  Lots.

It's a comic book series written by Matt Wagner.

It's also a book written in the 70's by James Gardner about the monster
Grendel that Beowulf fought in the book "Beowulf".

My brother used to have the comic back in the day. I always thought he looked like a skinny ninja Venom.

True, a lot of the people that have worn the Grendel mask were rather skinny. My favorite grendle was Grendel prime. He was a big half robot biker dude created by the first Grendel Khan Orion Asante. There have even been a few female grendels.

I never read them but I remember always admiring the cover and interior art when I would go to my local comic store.

Grendel's cool as a skinny guy. It was unique. All the other comic book characters were buffed up on steroids. (and still are I think)
