What difficulty setting are you playing? I never knew the alien could come out during that part.

What I personally found was that during the missions when the alien was hunting me (rather than roaming around randomly), it would dash straight towards my room at top speed whenever I held out the tracker, even if it was halfway across San Cristobal.
It'll check lockers if it sees a snatch of you getting into it, or if it's just super pissed off; not sure if moving within the locker affects it (other than failing to hold your breath if it's actually looking in, obviously). Apparently the sound of the locker opening/closing isn't nearly as loud and obvious to the alien as it is to you.
Thanks, just started playing the game and the Alien keeps finding and killing me over and over on mission 6, (when your objective is to find doctors office then his key card).
