Cool!

One of the only pieces of art I know of to accurately capture the atmosphere of that finale.

That's my bad -- recently IG hadn't been letting me view accounts (forcing me to log in) even for non private accounts, so I was only able to post the photo instead of the embedded IG link.

Did Winston ever see that through? The way he tells the story, it was the piece on the left that he saw, hanging on the wall in an office.

Given how openly he used to admit copying that picture, I'd find it weird if he decided to mis-credit the mandibles bit.

Stan openly admitted it? Perhaps in a general sense, he saw it on that wall. But I don't remember Stan Winston specifically crediting John McTiernan and Robert Short's team for the dreads, bio-mask, minimal armor either - not in Winston's book or anywhere else I can remember (which is a shame), - so what would make the mandibles any different?

Also here's some Stan Winston Studios art that matches the concept of Munro's mandibles, which is one heck of a coincidence if one subscribes to the James Cameron story:

If Stan had said James Cameron suggested the four mandible X look, perhaps it wouldn't be a bone of contention.

But I tell you, with the bio-mask on, what changes did Stan really do to the Robert Short team concept? Unsung heroes they are!

This could've been what he meant, he just might not have fully elaborated. Winston's quote is "I stared drawing the now-famous mandibles of the Predator."

Munro's is unique in that it has side pincher jaws with moving teeth, compared to the final design with the four tusked digits. Really a mandible just means a moving mouth part of any sort, even our lower jaw is considered a mandible.

I've definitely seen him saying how he mixed that artwork with Cameron's mandibles to come up with "Stan Winston's Predator". It must've been in a documentary somewhere because I can picture him saying it even now.

Oy, to hear John Davis credit Stan for the dreads. To me it's like this. Stan deserves a huge chunk of credit. He does. Not trying to take it away from his legacy. But the spotlight needs to be shown on these other creatives as well by name in official docs, especially when they came up with the official look of the Predator with bio-mask on before Stan jumped aboard. That's always been my beef. :-\

Now maybe Stan gave credit to them in the documentary by name but it was cut out, but... I'll have to double check because it's been a while... I don't believe they were mentioned in Stan's book either.
