If memory serves, the making-of documentary they did for home video in the 2000s goes into some detail about how they accomplished that.

The whole sequence is just loaded with superb shots. Like when you see it decloak in the reflection of the water.

Probably a silly question, but i always wondered why he was reflected un-camouflaged in the water, while still invisible in the next shot ? Maybe just a cinematic effect IDK.

I think it's meant to be shorting out rather than completely deactivating, and when the Predator squares up to Willie the cloak's obviously sorted itself out, but I agree the change between shots is a bit incongruous.

Wasn't that entirely rotoscoped or am I misremembering?

It's been a long time since I watched it, but yeah, I think you're right. If memory serves, they filmed the water (with devices under the surface to generate the splashes) and the Predator (in the red suit) separately, then applied the camo effect to the Predator, and then rotoscoped that into the puddle footage.

Almost every other Predator cloak effect you can recreate in about ten minutes in After Effects with the proper foreground and background elements these days. But that shot would still be a bitch to accomplish in the digital age.

^ Wow. I see a true fan here. I even envy a little. Great collection!

Predator 2 is my favourite Predator film. I like the first too but in the second film I like the atmosphere, action, City Hunter's personality. And also City Hunter's design is my favorite. Iconic movie.

Thanks!

City Hunter is badass, my favourite Predator also. In the novel South China Sea is a very awesome Predator, second place.

The Soundtrack Cassette in my collection has a special place. I love the Predator 2 soundtrack.
So Vibrant.
I do also have Vinyl LP of Jerry Goldsmith score for Alien. Very excellent music!

Loved it as a teenager, it was the first of the the Predator movies i owned on DVD.

I always saw it as a worthy succesor to the first. Loved the switch from the literal jungle to the concret jungle. And we got a lot of new and cool weapons which where part of the predator's armory since than
I always had minor issues with the predator design in this one compared with the one in the first. It's just a little bit crowded and overdesigned.
The face, the armor, there is so much detail going on. Even the skin is a little bit too colorful for my taste.
