Docking bay is midships where the 'facehugger claws' are.

The 'in front of the hull scene' is just dumb. It's nowhere near any hull.

How do you know? And how would he know? The ship looks super thick though.

How do I know?  Watching the film. There's a corridor and rooms and another corridor behind the Alien. There's a door and another corridor or room behind the characters. Ripley shoots it's head off and there's no acid burning through the lower hull.
