The Predator - Bluray

3rd time. My cousin wanted to watch it, so we did. He liked some of the humor, but felt it was a really weak film overall. The film didn't improve for me with this viewing. I'm going to try one more time, probably next weak. If it doesn't improve at all, I won't be watching it again for a long, long time. It's just so slow, and the locations are so boring. McKenna's house and the farm, the neighborhood etc, it just drags on forever. The only location in the film that I find even remotely interesting is the forest they all flee into. What a stinker.

You know Voodoo is going to question whether this was actually your cousin's call. ;)

My family had Christmas dinner today because we're all going to be working. Guess what the guys wanted to watch? The things we do for love.

Whiplash

Jonah, leave Reed Richards alone. Fant4stic wasn't his fault.

Ah, Fantastic Forefinger, one of the few films I never even tried twice. Perhaps I should change that.

Whiplash! Wonderful, wonderful movie. One of my favorite movies of all time. So tense! Amazing that a movie surrounding jazz musicians is so tense!

Am I making sense? I don't know. I'm drinking gin.

And f**k, this had some of the creepiest shit in it so far.

How'd you like Phillip Jeffries, brief though his appearance was?

That bit went by a little too fast in the movie itself for me to process, but the extended version (possibly minus the guy talking about shitting himself) in The Missing Pieces was very intriguing.

Yeah, that's easily one of my favourite films of the last few years. And that's despite destructive professional obsession being quite a heavily tapped subject (Black Swan and The Wrestler being some other examples). What puts Whiplash above and beyond is the intensity generated by the frantic drumming and JK Simmons.

I heard after you watched the movie, you and your "cousin" went out to dinner!

He's a Keegan fan, and he was still disappointed.

Personally I thought Keegan was pretty funny on the bus... and even more so in the hotel room as Casey was waking up. In the theater, I laughed out loud the first time I saw that scene.

The "because we f*ck c*ck c*ck?" line was his favorite. Keegan wasn't too bad, it's just that most of his jokes are really old. It just didn't feel effective. I'd also like to know what he was actually saying when they overdubbed the "go, I got this line". His lips are definitely not matching the audio there.
