^^My first reaction was: What the hell did they do to Pacific Rim?! After I watched it again, I think I see what they're doing here. In the first one, the Jaegers fighting the Kaiju basically became a joke. They were making toys, making fun of the Kaiju on late night TV shows - it had all become a gag. Then it wasn't funny anymore, because the Kaiju kept coming and getting stronger and more powerful. Fiercer. Now...imagine a world with just Jaegers and, for the moment anyway, no Kaiju. They'll get overconfident, too complacent, arrogant, and it will become a gag again...then all hell breaks loose again. I think it has a ton of potential still. We'll see what happens when they have more trailers, but I think it makes sense. History repeats itself.
