We are now currently living in a time where there's a movie out in theaters that's about giant robots vs giant monsters and its MINDBLOWING!

Someone pinch me.

Actually I was referencing a sentai crossover movie when I mentioned bootleg. (still not a bad idea for a PR sequel; heh, PR meaning either Power Rangers or Pacific Rim)

Quote from: Blacklabel on Jul 12, 2013, 07:25:40 PMDel Toro was totally channeling the silly War of the Gargantuas rather than the somber super serious tones of Godzilla. :P

Gargantuas is just as earnest and sincere as Godzilla... it's just about two mutant Frankenstein brothers beating the hell out of one another. Despite featuring towering monsters none of the Honda films talk down to anyone.

Quote from: Cal427eb on Jul 12, 2013, 07:36:45 PMI suppose so, but it's an anime. So, I leave most logic at the front door with that.  :P

If you can do it with animation why not live action? The only "cheese" is that which you bring with you. I love how tangible these films are, it's something slowing edging away with movies these days.

Quote from: Cvalda on Jul 12, 2013, 07:43:36 PMAnd the monsters in Pacific Rim are obviously cartoon CGI. So what.
They were designed around the fact that they were mo capped from a guy in a suit, del toro had said he still wanted that feel.

There's no motion capture in Pac Rim. It's all key frame. It's more akin to stop motion, only done in the computer. Likening it to anything cheap, easy or fast is disrespectful to the people that work hard on this, especially in a film with a world as thought out as Pacific Rim's.

You don't treat live action and animation the same way. You just don't.

How are either methods listed -- suitmation or motion-capture -- cheap, easy, or fast? They all require skill and ingenuity to pull off properly.
