The pricing is, however, as masturbatory as the crowdfunding comms and advertising all seems to be though.

It seems folk here don't understand the nature of crowdfunding. $50 is not the cost of a digital download.  It's the cost to support the project and recieve a digital download, digital soundtrack and your name in the documentary's credits.

One the pledging period is over, they will no doubt sell digital copies of the documentary for a more standard rate.  Y'all new to crowdfunding or something?

I think everyone here understands just fine  . Doesn't mean we have to like the price and as mentioned their previous efforts have been less expensive. Also their talk about real fans should be glad to pay up is ultra lame.

This type of thing should not be encouraged.

100 does seem pricey, but there is also the 50 edition (it's less in EUR and pound).
The general buzz is very positive, and the main criticism besides the prize seems to be "No Sig".

I saw the rough cut a few months ago, and it was a bit too much "talking heads", and a bit less "interactive scene analysis" than they initially promised. But I know they are still making changes, and overall it was good.
There were perhaps 2-3 very good anecdotes (scene trivia) that have not been mentioned anywhere else.
