Maybe this Engineer that seems to have such a bad attitude infected and killed his fellow Engineers 2,000 years ago. He could be the "Dr. Frankenstein" of his own race. That, or he's the caretaker of that quarantined planet and upon seeing us realizes that we're more than likely infected and going to spread the infection elsewhere.
