Major problem with stuttering & choppy cinematic cut-scenes on all platforms (Read 6,398 times)

Hey guys,

I'm afraid that Alien Isolation now atm has major problems with stuttering and choppy cinematic cut-scenes on all platforms (I got the game on PS4).

It's very annoying and it really ruins the experience. The framerate even drops to around 5 fps at times in the cut-scenes. CA has confirmed that they are aware of this problem and are looking in to it. Here are threads for this issue from the official forums.

PS4 (multiple threads): http://forums.alienisolation.com/forum/support/playstation-only-issues/ps4-issues

PC: http://forums.alienisolation.com/forum/support/pc-only-issues/performance-issues/19579-cutscene-framerate

XBOX ONE: http://forums.alienisolation.com/forum/support/xbox-only-issues/xbox-one-issues/19494-stuttering-and-choppy

It's really sad that a problem like this exist in the final release and I can't understand how on God's green earth this issue slipped through quality control. The game otherwise, is truly amazing, IMO. But I really don't want to continue playing until this problem is fixed.
Thought I would let you guys here know of this. Hopefully, the more people that complain about this, the faster they will patch it.

It's funny how they're saying only "a few" people are experiencing the choppy cutscenes. Everybody's experiencing them regardless of platform.

Yeah, I actually loled, then got quite annoyed.

SEGA marketing is not your friend, and it's pretty obvious they have a despooling issue with the movies. I'm running this on two Titans and it hitches like mad during cutscenes.

Actually this is the first time I hear about this problem. My cinematics are running perfectly fine and none of my friends told me anything about this problem either. The cinematics in this game are just pre rendered videos so I don't see why they could be choppy if your system can run 1080p videos fine  ??? Its sad they are rendered at 30 fps though.

Pc version: like above. I have no problem with cut scenes. They are just reguler videos so how can they be choppy? I think it might be just consoles issue.

This issue is effecting tons of users on all platforms, Some PC's, PS, Xbox and needs to be addressed. Sometimes when it happens to me I feel like it drops to a horrid 10FPS. Its very distracting.

Here is a quote from Eurogamers tests of the game: Quote: "Cut-scenes deserve some exploration as there are clear issues with judder on both consoles..."

I have a PS4 and the stutter is barely noticeable for me. I noticed it with first two cutscenes but now not so much

What the hell? I haven't had a single problem.

Dowly

No problems here (PC version).

Here's a link to write to Sega the publishers about this problem. Start writing guys. The more, the better. Let them know that we want this issue resolved ASAP.

No need. I'm sure they know that it's the next thing that needs to be patched.

The last game I bought before Alien Isolation was Aliens: Colonial Marines.  I feel like I can tolerate anything now so the cut-scenes do not bother me at all.

Playing Alien Isolation is a great experience.

I'm finding the cutscenes fine, they do seem to have a low frame rate but FRAPs says they are playing at 60fps, so the issue is not the system playing the videos, the issue must be the way the videos were compressed or something.

Le Celticant

Hey,

The cutscenes are extraordinary well detailed and high resolution with little artefacts for compressed cut-scenes which surprised me a lot.
I believe the video player is having some issues if you haven't installed all the codec (PC) and you do have a high end graphic card (above or equal 500 series for NVIDIA) and there's not much you can do for consoles beside waiting they patch it with a compression that is much more adequate for consoles.

I have no issues with a 580 GTX and codec updated every week.
