Quote from: aliens13 on Feb 24, 2024, 11:14:28 PMI already returned the bootleg figure and luckily I have my money back, searching for another figure I came across with this an Ultimate Big Chap but already looks suspicious with the white thing that attachs the figure to the box, in all the images that I saw it's always black:

What's your opinion? That image it's from the seller

The plastic that holds them in should be the clear plastic ones, not the black ones. Learned my lesson with the Scarface "NECA" Predator I own...  :P

The image you shared looks like it should be authentic.
Here's an image of my Warrior Aliens for some reference.

Hope this helps!
Thank you very much! It was very helpful. So looks authentic, I asked to the seller of it's original or bootleg. It said that it's original, and looks that he is telling the truth. It's always having a second opinion here too  ;D

Quote from: StayFrosty on Feb 25, 2024, 01:47:59 AMSo I finally got a hold of a Fireteam Elite Runner Alien. I'm very disappointed... too small, but mainly the Ultimate Dog alien looks much more realistic. Looks way better. Luckily I have both.

Ultimate Dog for the win!

I do not understand how anyone can think this honestly, the durability and articulation, (YOU CAN ACTUALLY GET THE RUNNER IN RUNNER POSES FINALLY WOW WHAT A REVELATION) definitely the paint job, and film accuracy are all better on the Fireteam Elite version.
In Film accuracy it's better the FE one than the Ultimate? Wow, I didn't know that

Yeah the "Ultimate" version uses a weird inconsistent composite of both rod puppet and suit details, and it is just weirdly asymmetrical in general.

wasn't it asymmetrical in the movie? I like the proportions of the ultimate better and poses can it do?

Only the head was slightly asymmetrical in the film itself, look up the ArtFX statue or CoolProps one for what it should look like.

Still, I'm also on the vote that the Ultimate Dog Alien is better than the FTE one. The FTE one is overpriced, too small and the tail is too short. I know it's accurate to the game, but not to the movie. Its joints do seem sturdier, but the ones on the Ultimate aren't bad either. It's not like the first release. And with the ultimate that is in the worst case scenario the same price, but more often cheaper, you get a bigger figure, more visible detailed textures and 2 chestburster queens.

The accessories are good, the inaccuracies, and inability to pose it in running stances kills it. It can not even look horizontally or stand on all fours at once in a natural way.

It's actually accurate. The Dog Alien was never as big as portrayed by Neca. But more importantly, they're smaller in the game.

Yes, it's accurate to the game, but not the movie versions. Neca's Runner was originally too big, but I'd rather get that than too small. The Fireteam ones are too small compared to the movie. You can say they're from smaller creatures on the planet, but they aren't the known Dog/Ox Alien. And again, the price per amount of plastic is an important factor. Ultimate Dog Alien was around 50$ with a bigger size of the figure and more accessories, while just the smaller Runner was around 60$. That is a huge deal.

And a personal minus for the initial design itself in FTE are the wide oversized hands (not too long fingers like in some designs, just having the palm of the hands be too wide), but that's not Neca's fault. What is their fault is taking away double jointed elbows.

The figure is nicely textured, but that's cause they used the ingame 3D files for the sculpt. That's great, if they do more game Aliens, I hope they use that technique. Too bad we couldn't have gotten an accurate Defiance Praetorian...

And why they didn't proceed to make the Drone, Warrior and Praetorian is beyond me. Maybe cause they just wanted to make the smaller overpriced Aliens instead of the bigger ones.

I would have been cool if they made an "Monica" Alien Drone figure

The mouth on the FTE Runner looks awful and instantly kills the figure for me. I don't care if the Ultimate movie one is "less accurate", it looks better to my eyes, it's bigger so I feel like I'm getting a better value, the accessories were cooler (mainly because it had some), and I can get it in the poses I want to.

The size representation of the aliens in games, models and figures is often a problem.

Doggy wasn't always correct even in the film, even the makers say that.
By using the rod puppet in front of a blue screen, the creature was not always inserted correctly into the film and the size varied.(by the way: Neca ! I want a dog alien in size 1/4 !)

In the games the aliens are almost always too small for me.
The only ones who got it right were once again creative assembly.

In FE you can certainly try to explain this with the variation of the different mutations, but it doesn't look good either.
(I don't like this game anyway. a huge step backwards compared to isolation)

Does anyone remember the bonus powerloader figure from A:CM?
the attacking alien warrior is much even smaller than the marine.
No people, there are just too many fools out there messing around with the alien brand.

When the first AVP came out there was a photo behind the scenes. It showed Ian Whyte and Tom Woodruff, in their costumes, during a break from filming.
Tom is a lot smaller than Ian and many idiots at the time thought that this was the correct size for the creatures. I had magazines that said the alien warrior was about 1.80m tall.
which is absolute nonsense.
I'm just wondering why all the alien models don't have sneakers on, that was clearly visible in the picture... :'(

I can get not liking the Fireteam Elite Runner figure face area, I do not love it myself, but in size terms?

It still towers over most one tenth scale figures, just not to the degree of the Ultimate one, but the pose potential, the detail, the balance, the symmetry, the sculpt and paintjob outweigh the face being somewhat weird.
(Weird that they nailed it with the Prowler and Burster)

Look at the Ultimate from above and you can see the dome's literally f**king slanted to one side, it's so awful looking, look at the legs and arms being completely alternate sculpts, or the giant ball joints at the pelvis that comes further out to one side that the other.

It is just a poor representation of my favourite Alien.

If you do not like the Fireteam Elite Runner, I totally can get the reasons behind why, but that does not therefore make the Ultimate not a total mess because it absolutely is.

I'm looking at it now and it's not. The Alien is bigger than the marine, but the legs are bent up while the Marine is stretched out.

If the alien's legs were stretched out, are they longer than the marine's?
The alien here always seemed too puny to me.

Counterpoint: That's your opinion and you're welcome to it, people are allowed to like things you don't.

The face on the FTE runner isn't "somewhat weird", it's genuinely bad and doesn't look like the Alien3 runner. If you want a representation of the movie runner, the FTE one fails at that point, full stop. The Lanard Toys runner's face is more accurate than the FTE one. I think you've said the FTE toy is based on the in-game renders from FTE, but even I am willing to call shenanigans on that - I don't believe the in-game model's face looked as bad as the toy's does. But I'm willing to be wrong on that, it's been a bit since I played the game or seen direct comparisons.

The runner shouldn't tower over "most" NECA humans, it should tower over all of them. If it doesn't, the size is wrong.

I think the paintjob looks great, the FTE one absolutely is not enough of an improvement to justify buying what I see as an otherwise inferior product.

And believe me, I really like the Alien3 runner, it's one of my favorite designs too. But the Ultimate one hits all the right notes for me, it looks great, it's big, I can get it in all the poses I want, the accessories are cool, AND it was cheaper than the FTE one.

Edit--

https://www.artstation.com/artwork/qQr4RN

The toy's upper lip and jaw protrudes out more than the render does, and neither of them look quite like the one in the movie (although the render's version is substantially closer).

With Aliens, the face is the first thing my eye gravitates towards, and it's real easy to screw that up and make the whole production unappealing to my eyes. The FTE toy does this (on top of its other problems), making it an instant dealbreaker. If the face wasn't jacked up, I'd likely have bought it. Shit, I've seen it in stores as recently as like 3 weeks ago and I held it in my hands and said "do I want this?" and then I'd look at the face and say "yeah nah, the Ultimate one will do".

Of course, all of this is my opinion and preferences. You do you. :)
