A good Video game movie. That set up a sequel that never happened

King Kong 1933
A true classic. Black and White yet still fantastic and remains the king of the monster movies to this day. And factoring its time, it's still the most impressive special effects I have ever seen.

Manhunter

Michael Mann's Red Dragon adaptation. Hadn't seen it before -- interesting thriller, and I really liked Brian Cox's Lecktor (sic.).

Great film!  It wipes the floor with Ed Norton's Red Dragon!

Cox is so good as Lector. Realistically terrifying in a way Hopkins' (admittedly amazing) theatrical interpretation isn't.

I prefer Hopkins, but he had more characterization to work with. Red Dragon Lecter was little more than an afterthought. He comes off as more of a smug dick than anything to me.

It took a second viewing but I Iove that movie.

And Val as Doc is aces.  Perfection, really.

Princess Mononoke (1997) A bit disappointing and overrated actually. The animation and soundtrack are amazing, probably one of Joe Hisaishi's best Ghibli scores, but the story is too vague. Most characters are flat as cardboard and most of the time you don't have a clue what their motivations are to behave the way they do. The eco-message that Miyazaki likes to rub in our faces didn't really bother me though. Another thing that I didn't expect was that's it's pretty violent for a Ghibli movie, with plenty of blood and body parts flying around. 7/10

Nods in agreement.

And unless I've missed one of his films. I think it's Michael Biehn's best villain performance.

I sure didn't like Michael in The Abyss. Was he a true villian in The Abyss?  Well either way, we was a great foil to Doc in Tombstone.

I considered him a villain in "The Abyss" as well. Some may argue different as he was suffering from side effects from the extreme depth. As Johnny Ringo he was just evil.  ;)
