Bugs the hell out of me that only the BFG version of Doom 3 is available on Steam now. Aside from the lingering threat of modding compatibility (I spent
years balancing and fiddling with mine, not looking forward to scouring it for conflicts), I haven't really heard anything good about the changes it's made.
So the end result is that I don't have one of my very favourite games of all time installed on my current machine, as I've developed a pathological aversion to game discs.
:edit: Personally, I love the flashlight. There's not much that can match the atmosphere of fighting demons illuminated only by muzzle flare and glowing plasma. The effect's doubled when you have the leaked Trent Reznor sound work installed though, and tripled if you mod their healths so they can take more of a pounding.
:double edit: Huh, it seems vanilla Doom 3 is in Steam's store again. Yay!
