Eh, the only "armor" I can think of in ALIEN are their space suits. It would be kind of interesting to see an armored space suit type of thing... But just regular clothing? Maybe if we get Rescue missions where we look for civilians to evacuate. But as a marine? Why walk into the belly of the beast just wearing overalls? Silly.
It would be really awesome if the new Torch class (take it it's an Incendiary pyro-tech class) will brandish different types of the infamous but awesome Apesuit (ALIEN3 style and from the AVP games) as the W-Y armor we got look way too futuristic and out of character if you ask me. It's too DOOM Guyish Master Chief for me.
As for the inmates, then yeah, it would be cool to have a bald marine wearing a long militaryesque army style overcoat like the one Dillon & Clemens sported while still wearing Colonial Marines attire and body armor underneath. Maybe if we end up getting a more hostile outdoor environment set of maps, where large coats like that would actually kind of make sense being worn by the marines.
Also, the Haywire class seems very interesting. It seems like it's basically a sapper / combat engineer kind of unit? Setting up barricades, rolling out (electric) fences and whatnot to strategically block the enemy while offering extra time and cover for one's teammates.

It would be kind of interesting if you get to save civis on the first campaign and have them on your crew as an option to replace beta and alpha.
Fun idea, but would you really like to have a bunch of panicking untrained civilians to follow you around rather than combat- programmed robots, whom are fearless by default?
The whole Hoenikker escort episode was pretty damn silly with him running around toting his gun. Sure he, wanted to prove himself, but still - extremely goofy and unrealistic. Made the Aliens seem even weaker than before (...as if that's possible). He should've been surrounded and protected at all times by the players/marines, as if he dies you automatically fail the mission, and he should have very limited health. Sure, Ripley was tougher than most, even tougher and competent than some of the Marines, but she had experience and the soul of a warrior, and not every civilian in the Alien franchise can be a Ripley, especially not some scientist who has spent most of his adult life in labs and research facilities. Also, pistols should be useless unless emptying a whole magazine at soft spots upclose, or if you sport big slug firing guns 100+ years from when A:FTE takes place.
