Yep. 

Fox financed A New Hope.  Lucas sacrificed part of his directors salary to retain control.  The success of ANH (and the merch) funded Empire Strikes Back and so on.  Star Wars is owned by Lucasfilm Ltd.  Fox just handles distruibution.

Which is different to Alien which IS owned by Fox.
