You mean the brown patterns on the "shoulder pads" right? Ya, that is a bit weird. Other than that this is on par with Giger's original alien. I go back and forth on which I prefer, the ridgetop vs the carapace dome. Sometimes I will prefer one over the other for a few years and then switch.
The ridgetop basically looks more aggressive, like a Native American warrior with war paint on. On the other hand, the smooth head of the original is serpentine and organic in a menacing way. They're both really awesome, and the James Cameron version is clearly influenced by the original just sans the carapace.
