I never realized the tail was that thick! How does the actor move in that with the tail? Strings?

There's a fair bit of shadow on the wall making the tail look thicker.

It wouldn't have been worn for all scenes.

I think that is the 'stiff' tail they used in a few scenes. They also had the wire operated tail, which was the one used the most I reckon.

I'm guessing they specifically look for gymnasts to fit inside such contraptions?

Vincent Hammond and other similar performers have to go to the gym pretty frequently. Especially when it comes to suits like that, the weight on you is pretty great.

I was thinking more about the fact that the suits are so tiny that they would have to use really skinny people. Just like Bolaji in Alien.
