It originally didn't have the pectoral muscles. Or the shoulder ones, I think -- Wang's early maquettes don't have them. I'm pretty sure after the movie came out someone even found a comment from the man himself saying he was confused as to why they were added, or something along those lines.

That 80/20 proportion changed a bit when a 14-year old happened to be walking through the halls of Fox, saw the maquette and said "Wow! Cool Alien!" This observation led to much discussion about how to make it look more like a Predator, and some last minute adding of dreadlocks to increase the Predator feel.

Although interestingly that one does have the shoulder muscles, so they possibly just hadn't sculpted them yet in the pictures above.
