The derelict from Alien is not the same as the ship from Prometheus. Proof:

Alien

Note that both arms are still intact:

Additionally, the ship appears to have settled to the ground in its current position like it landed there:

Prometheus

Spoiler
Look at this impact point from the trailer. Prometheus crashes into the ship in the main section:

The main section can be seen damaged and burning from the impact, but that does not explain why the right arm suddenly explodes. This damage from these events is not present on the derelict from Alien:

Additionally, this sequence causes major damage to the ship as it rolls onto its side, quite the opposite of a smooth landing:

[close]

They cannot be the same.
And yet, when we see the Derelict crashed on the surface, it is not damaged at all from the impact, and is not on fire anymore. Hardly "proof".

We're still on the Derelict topic? :-\

I wonder what the Weyland employed David is employed as...

Robo-butler :D

Kinda what I had figured too. Science officer above all, but Weyland personal assistant and confidant possibly (considering the affection of using a name reserved for a son he never had [presumably]).

So a King has his reign, then he dies. When i heard this i thought about the ampules. In ancient Egypt when a Pharaoh died they would put his organs and things he would need in the afterlife into urns.To me the ampule room looks somewhat like a tomb,The face a kind of ''shrine''.Also, around the Chair platform there seems to be objects that look like Sarcophagus.
Perhaps ancient Egyptians Copying their space Astronaught gods.
I was thinking along the very same line of thought several weeks ago. It definitely looks like a shrine or a way of preserving a race. Too many similarities to the Egyptians to be mere coincidence.  And yes, those 4 or 5 pods in the navigation room on the derelict-like ship do look like sarcophagus tombs--don't they?  I am wondering if any space jockeys are formed or are (hidden away) in any of them?

Maybe David8 being on the Prometheus mission is a Weyland publicity stunt?
The newest robot on the newest spaceship together in this fresh space-mission-adventure.   :P

Haha, I can see that given the character they are trying to portray so far.

"I'm so smart and rich, I've got all the best shit crammed into one awesome stunt! Beat that, world!"

The whole world is watching Weylands deep space expidition in anticipation
and then obviously the shit will hit the fan.
I wonder how they'll explain that to the public,
so that everything will be forgotten 30 years later,
when the Nostromo "accidently" recieves a mysterious message.

I think they made a point to make it looked like it crash landed in Alien.  It seems pretty obvious to me but perhaps not to everyone.  In any case, I don't disagree with the rest of what you said but it's really too hard for anyone to say at this point I think, what with the drastic change in Prometheus' aesthetics from the style Scott used in Alien.  It seems like it'd be easy for someone like Scott to write those differences off simply as design changes as I don't think he has much, if any, concern with continuity like you'd expect from a fan.  He is a big time movie director, after all.  That's not to say he wouldn't worry about that sort of thing if he was making a sequel or prequel, but I wouldn't consider this a prequel in the literal sense from what we've been shown.

Kol

one question:

why is shaw's hair black on this pic instead of red?  ???
